Each tribe had its own language, culture, method of government, customs and religion. They lived independently of each other, often fighting over land. Sometimes, one tribe would conquer another and absorb it into their population. Eventually, most of these tribes would be incorporated into the [G 11 / Inca] Empire. The Inca were descended from a tribe who ruled the area around Cuzco.
The Chimu tribe, a powerful and aggressive people, dominated the Trujillo area and built a capital city which they called Chan Chan. They made ceramics of a very high quality. The Chancay people dominated the Chancay Valley, north of Lima. Tribes near Lake Titicaca built [L3 302 / chullpas] (funeral towers). The Chankas lived in the Ayacucho-Apurimac area.
